Rather presumptuous of you to assume that your performance review will be positive and encourage a raise…What if your performance is below expectations? How will you know unless you ask?
Ask for a performance review but make it clear up-front that you know you will not get a raise, and that you are not expecting one. That will take pressure off your Mr. Newbury, and he will be less apprehensive about talking with you about your work.
Funny…. I did that and got laid off 6 weeks later…
I decided to go for it a few weeks back and ask for my review. I ended up getting my review and a 20% raise. I always figure….It never hurts to ask.
