Yeah we were taught Rhino and Grasshopper where the way firms were going… maybe in super large firms… not up where I live

Rhino…I haven’t done anything with that since school nearly ten years ago. We’re still on AutoCAD Architecture.

Autodesk is pushing really hard to get us to buy Revit. However consider that for 90% of our projects we don’t need a parametric model. Toilet room upgrades, re-roofs and tenant fit-outs are just not high-fee enough to justify modeling every component.

Since that’s true why would we want to pay thousands more than the thousands we already pay yearly to output the same drawings that we are outputting now?

Remember we still produce 2D drawings and details from which they build the building. Even in Revit all the details are 2D….and unless you’re using a big G.C. they don’t have the sophistication to use or care about Navisworks or clash detection.

We use Revit for all of our projects and have abandoned AutoCAD completely except for the civil side of the firm that uses Civil3D. On small projects like interior remodels, we don’t need to add any extra details, we just draw it up like we did with Architectural Desktop but we’re using Revit components.

Because we have all architectural and engineering disciplines in-house, we find that modeling the building in Revit saves us a lot of headaches and costs down the road. Mechanical and electrical can see how all the structural and architectural elements work together without having to guess. That avoids and solves lots of potential conflicts during the design phase instead of finding them during construction.

Doing all jobs with Revit also makes life easier just because we don’t have to switch back and forth between software packages.

We use Revit for all our projects. We gave up on AutoCAD and now find it easier to draft the non-modeled jobs in Revit.

Can you please tell the other people in my firm that this is true… They dont believe me that drawing details in Revit is AT LEAST as easy as doing them in CAD. They just need to actually TRY it without looking for something to complain about.

    … Yep. What’s Grasshopper?

It amazes me how often the stories parallel my office. Sometimes I think it’s written by a coworker. Good stuff, carry on.

Good day! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering
if you knew where I could find a captcha plugin for my comment form?
I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having problems finding one?
    Thanks a lot!
